Hijab: The Muslim Woman's Dress

The term hijab is generally used among Muslims in reference to the head-scarf and long garments that Muslim women wear. Some people use the term just to mean "head-scarf." While this is not technically correct as hijab is not only a head-scarf but also a complete way of dressing (and even living), it is common enough to use it this way that one should be aware of that. The face veil, on the other hand, is called niqab. Not all Muslim women cover their faces but many do. Check out our Niqab Page for more information about this practice.
