Building an Islamic Web-Site, Part III:
Using Frontpage Express
(How to Save a Document)

Once you've written an article in Frontpage, you'll need to save it. You can do this very simply by selecting File from the menu options at the top of the screen and choosing Save. Alternatively, you may press Ctrl + S to accomplish the same task.

A little window will pop up and ask you for the Page Title. This is the title which will appear on the bar at the very top of your browser. It is recommended that you use the opportunity to place key words which will help the search engines find your site. They say that these words should not be capitalized and that you should not use words like "the" and "a" since the search engines ignore them. However, it is up to you to enter the title the way you best see fit.

Once you have chosen a suitable title for your page, click on As File. In the field for File Name, choose a filename. Depending on where you will eventually be uploading your files, some systems do not like filenames with spaces or special symbols in them. So, to make it easier on yourself, choose a simple word or phrase for the file name such as muslimwomen if, for example, you have written an article about Muslim women. It is best not to use capital letters.

In the field for Save As Type, select HTML Files. As when saving any file in Windows, use the options available to decide in which folder you want to save the document. If you are not very familiar with this, try to save it on the Desktop so you do not lose it by accident. Now click on Save and you are finished saving it. From now on, whenever you need to make changes to the document, you can just press Ctrl + S to save the changes. It is a good idea to do this frequently as you work in case something happens to disrupt your work (such as a power outage.)

Now that you know how to save a document in Frontpage, you will need to know how to open it. Go to our lesson on Opening a File.
