The Light of Submission
To know and recognize the truth, is in itself a blessing and a proof of guidance. But we must be careful not to attritube any power to ourselves as we are only its carriers.
I walk along a
sandy beach
The sound of the sea fills my ears
The sun strains through the grayness of the sky
The sand feels warm beneath my feet
I shiver from the coolness of the wind
I found a golden shell some years ago
I recognized its beauty
And held it tight
It stayed with me o'er rocks and sand
Storm and calm
Only once I dropped it
But quickly picked it up again
Now its part of me
Its golden rays shine from within
Its light reaching out to others
Through my submission
If ever I think its beauty belongs to me
I may lose it forever
For I am only a carrier of its light
In the
following verses from the Quran, we learn that guidance,
knowledge and understanding come from the Creator, as a benefit
to mankind. They comprise of a Light, which no individual or
collective power on earth can extinguish. Should we be blessed to
recognize the light of truth, we are indeed fortunate, as this
light guides those who follow it sincerely, to a glorious eternal
home.
"Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The
parable of His Light is as (if there were) a niche and within it
a lamp, the lamp is in glass, the glass as it were a brilliant
star, lit from a blessed tree, an olive, neither of the ease (i.e.
neither it gets sun-rays only in the morning) nor of the west (i.e.
nor it gets sun-rays only in the afternoon,-but it is exposed to
the sun all day long), whose oil would almost glow forth (of
itself), though no fire touched it. Light upon Light! Allah
guides to His Light whom He wills. And Allah sets forth parables
for mankind, And Allah is All-Knower of everything." (Al
Qu'ran. Sura An-Nur 24:35)
